Air pollution in confined spaces is an important public health issue, with significant social and economic implications. The high concentration of contaminants in such environments has a negative - albeit not acute - impact on the health and wellbeing of people, especially in case of long periods of exposure. The European commissions have established guideline values for the main indoors pollutants.
Germany, France, Holland, Finland, Belgium and Italy have started monitoring and sampling the key indoor pollutants. On the matter of Indoor Air Quality, the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Italian National Health Institute, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks (SCHER), and the European Commission for Science and Technology have concluded that it is necessary to reduce the sources of contaminations as well as the concentrations of the pollutants included in the shared European list.
*Reductions in bacteria-moulds-VOC-viruses may vary from those indicated based on the characteristics of the environment and its use (size, presence density, ventilation and basic hygienic conditions).
Galileo Research, a research center created in 2011, and part of the Abiogen Pharma’s R&D division, has carried out research to verify potential adverse effects proving the absence of side effects when using Jonix devices, including overdosage.
The Department of Molecular Medicine, directed by prof. Andrea Crisanti, has tested the Non Thermal Plasma technology adopted in Jonix devices in laboratory to verify its virucidal activity.
The results obtained show that the tested device NonThermal Plasma technology has an effective bactericidal activity against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with a reduction of bacterial load up to 5 logarithmic units.
To ensure maximum precision and accuracy, the test was performed in compliance with the UNI EN 17272 2020 standard “Method for disinfecting indoor air by automated processes Determination of bactericidal mycobactericidal sporicidal fungicidal yeasticidal virucidal and phagocytic activity”.
